GUFFIE, -Y, adj. Fat about the temples or cheeks, chubby (Cld. 1825 Jam.), flat-or flabby-cheeked (Rxb. 1923 Watson W.-B., Add., Rxb. 1955). Also applied to a certain breed of hen (see quot.).Abd.15 1928–50:
The guffie hen has tufts o' doony fedders aboot her chooks.
Hence guffiness, “thickness and fatness about the temples or cheeks” (Cld. 1825 Jam.).
