GLAIZE, adj. Also glaze, gles. Open and coarse in texture, esp. of knitted, woven or plaited work (Sh. 1914 Angus Gl., glaze; ‡Sh.10, Ork.5 1954). [Sh. gle:s, Ork. + gle:z]Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928):
De sock is gles, the stocking is too loosely knitted; a gles kessi, a loosely plaited straw-basket.
Ork. 1929 Marw.:
If one were to hold a piece of cloth up to a light and see much light through it, one would say, “That's puir glaize stuff.”
