GABBOCK, n.2 Some sort of fish.Inv. 1789 Dmf. Weekly Jnl. (Dec.) 22:
On the 19th ult. there was found on the sea shore, to the extent of eight miles, a surprising number of fish, named gabbocks. . . . They are about half a yard long, and very fat to eat, and have no fins on them.
