GAB, n.3 A hook. Also dim. gabbie.
†1. The hook at the end of the chain on which pots are hung over an open fire (Cld. 1825 Jam.; Ayr. 1923 Wilson Dial. Burns 165). Cf. Cruik, n., 1.
2. The hook on the end of a chain or rope, e.g. on a crane (Sc. 1886 J. Barrowman Mining Terms 30); the hook at the end of a hutch draw-bar on to which the coupling is attached (Lth., Ayr. 1953).
