FLOT, n. Also flott, float. An area of land ploughed at one turn, of varying breadth (Cai.3 1952); "four rigs" (Cai. 1907 D. B. Nicolson in County of Cai. 72), "three poles or so" (Cai. 1900 E.D.D., float, flot); the portion allotted to each competitor in a ploughing-match (Cai.7 1943).Cai. 1916 John o' Groat Jnl. (14 April):
The ground was divided into rigs and "flotts," two five-space rigs making a flott.
