FINSTER, n. A find, a discovery; an object found, esp. something worth finding (Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928); 1914 Angus Gl.), sometimes ironical (Sh.10 1951).Sh. 1879 Shet. Times (22 March):
I fan dem i' da hill, an' dey wir naethin' freer as a finster.

[From fin, Find, + -ster. The ending is unusual, phs. influenced in form by Vinster.]
