FINESTONE, n. Mining: see quot.w.Lth. 1845–7 Trans. Highl. Soc. 234:
Black blase, from 9 to 11 inches thick. This blase contains, in the upper part, balls of ironstone from 2 to 5 inches thick, which are called by the workmen the “finestone.”
