EXCRESCENCE, n. Any abnormal increase or surplus. Obs. in this sense in Eng. since 17th cent.Lnk. 1712 J.P.s Lnk. (S.H.S. 1931) 142:
The excresence of the said Cess or Land Tax monies . . . shall not amount to the said soume.
Sc. 1753 Scots Mag. (July) 347/1:
The said excrescence of the rents of that farm would . . . be accounted for to them.
Sc. 1768 Scheme for Annuity Hammermen Canongate 5:
In case of any excrescence, that the same be added to the capital fund of the scheme for the widows.
