ECONOMIST, n. In the University of Aberdeen: the steward or keeper of the students' lodgings. Obs. since 18th cent.Abd. c.1750 Sc. N. and Q. (2nd Series) IV. 29:
The arrangements were entrusted to the Economist, who undertook to board students . . . Alexander Leslie, "vintner in Edinburgh," . . . was appointed Economist in 1753.
