EASTEN, n., adj. Also esten, estin. [′istən, ′estən Sc., Sh. + ′ɛstən]

1. n. The east, eastern part of a district (Sh. 1866 Edm. Gl., 1914 Angus Gl., esten; Sh.10 1949, obsol.).Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928):
A man f(r)ae de esten (estin), a man whose home lies east of a certain place.

2. adj. East, eastern (Rxb. 1801 J. Leyden Complaynt of Scot., Gl. 332, estin, ‡1923 Watson W.-B., easten; ‡Sh.10 1948). Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928):
A esten man, a man living east of a certain place.
Ags.19 1949:
Alang at the easten end ee toon.
