DEDDY, Deddie, Ded, n. Sc. variants of Eng. dad, daddy (Cai.7 1940, deddy). These forms are also found in Cum. dial. Cf. daidie, dady s.v. Daddy. [′dɛd(i)]Sc. a.1706 W. Hamilton in J. Watson Choice Collection (1869) I. 70:
They'l be baith Cliver, Keen, and Beddy, and ne'er Neglect, To Clink it like their ancient Deddy the famous Heck.
