CRUGGLES, n.pl. A disease of cattle (Sc. 1814 J. Sinclair Gen. Report Agric. Scot. III. 105).Mearns 1813 G. Robertson Agric. Kcd. 384:
The Cruggles also is an odd kind of disorder with which young beasts only are seized. . . . In this disease the animal is affected with a convulsive movement in its limbs, by which they are contracted, and intertwined among each other; and soon becoming unable to stand, it dies seemingly of pure weakness.

[Prob. of the same origin as Crochle, n., but the form may have been influenced by Kruggle, q.v., to crouch, bend, from Norw. krukla, to walk with crooked, stiff limbs (Torp).]
