CLESP, CLAISP, v. Sc. forms of Eng. clasp. [klɛsp, klesp]Abd.4 1929:
Claisp yer han's an' say the grace.
w.Dmf. 1920 J. L. Waugh Heroes in Homespun (1921) 81:
So we stood there, clespet haun' in haun'.

[The form clesp is found in O.Sc. in 1603 as a n., in 1609 as ppl.adj. klespit; claisp, n., appears a.1585 (D.O.S.T.).]
