CHURCH-JUDICATORY, n. comb. The governing body of the church. Bell in Dict. Law Scot. (1890) says: “the judicatories of the Church of Scotland . . . are kirk-sessions, presbyteries, provincial synods, and general assemblies.” N.E.D. gives the term judicatory as chiefly Sc.Sc. 1819 Scott Bride of Lamm. ii.:
The presbyterian church-judicatory of the bounds . . . had applied . . . for a warrant to prevent its [a funeral] being carried into effect.
