CHEESIE, CHEESY, adj. Nonsense word (applied to bats), used in children's rhyme. Known to Ags.2, Ags.17 1939.Ags. 1885 Arbroath Guide (3 Jan.) 2/3:
Cheesy bat, come into my hat, An' I'll lat ye out the morn.
Ags. 1893 “F. Mackenzie” Cruisie Sketches i.:
A throng of boys lay in wait for the bats as they flitted past, and threw their caps into the air, screaming as they did so “Cheesie bat, come into my hat.”
