CATTBAR, n. (See quot.)Bnff. 1734 W. Cramond Annals of Banff (1891) I. 208:
A cattbar or lighter to be built for the town by John Nicol of Findochty, 30 feet long in the keel, for nine guineas.

[O.Sc. has cabar, a lighter, from 1596 (D.O.S.T.); Fr. gabare, borrowed from Prov. gabarra, idem (Hatz. and Darm.). The intrusive tt may be due to the influence of Cat-bar.]
