CATRICK, n. Also catrac (Abd. 1826 D. Anderson Poems 57), catric (Ags. 1896 J. Stirton Thrums 38). A corruption of Eng. cataract, an eye-disease. Not known to our correspondents.n.Sc. 1808 Jam., s.v. catter; Inv., Per. 1898 E.D.D.:
Catrick . . . appears to be the same [disease] which physicians call a cataract. . . . If a cat pass over a corpse, it is believed that the person, whom it first leaps over after this, will be deprived of sight.
