BUSSARD, n. A class of carnation (E.D.D. Suppl.).Edb. 1812 P. Forbes Poems 89:
Sic flow'rs o' sorts ane seldom sees, Flecks, flames, bussards an' picketees, Wi' strong carnations, like young trees.

[This is a corruption of bizarre, a term used in seed catalogues in the classification of certain flowers, e.g. sweet-peas. Fr. bizarre, strange, curious, from Sp. bizarro. brave.]
