BURRAN, n. A fold for cattle.Dmf. 1795 Stat. Acc.1 I. 63:
There are several barrows, or burrans, as they are called here. They seem to have been intended for folding cattle at night.

[Phs. a variant of Birren, a camp. In droving days many of the old camp sites were used as cattle folds. For change of i to u, cf. burr s.v. Birr, n.1, etc.]
