BESNAW, v. Sc. form of Eng. besnow, which is given by the N.E.D. but omitted by the Concise Eng. Dict. and the Un. Eng. Dict.Wgt. 1804 R. Couper Poems II. 80:
Wow! sair had care besnaw't his head, And plough'd his knotty brow.

[From Be, pref., 1, and Snaw, q.v. O.E. snāw. Not given by D.O.S.T. First mention of besnow in N.E.D. is in quot. from Drayton 1597. The earlier forms in N.E.D. come from O.E. besnīwian.]
