BATON, n.2 Also batten. (See 1926 quot.)Slk. 1912 H.J.C. Clippings from Clayboddie (1921) 48: 
If one of the rollers up would be turning in a fleece, leaving the least bit of a batten on it, "Janet," he would say, "whit's comed o' eer shears?"
Dmf. 1926 (per Mry.1):
Batons — knots of hair in a rabbit or similar fur.
