BARGAIN-TACKER, n. The foreman, who undertakes the work in a section of a lead mine.s.Sc. 1898 W.G. in E.D.D.:
The lead mines were divided into sections, and each section was wrought by a foreman and a number of men in proportion to the size of the section. This foreman was called the bargain-tacker.
