AN(D)ERMESS, ANDIRSMESS, ANDREWSMASS, n. St Andrew's Day (30th Nov.).Sc. 1825 Jam.2:
The name of Andirsmess Market is still given to a fair held at this season, at Perth.
Sc. 1884 Ordn. Gazetteer of Scot. V. 186/2:
Andrewsmass fair, for cattle and horses, on the second Friday in December.
Abd.(D) 1871 W. Alexander Johnny Gibb xxiii.:
He fell upo' me comin' oot o' An'ersmas Fair like a thoosan' o' divots.
