1. prep. Of time = by.sm.Sc. 1887 Jam.⁶:
I'll be back an gloamin.

2. conj. Of time = by the time that.sm.Sc. 1887 Jam.⁶:
“It'll be a' by an ye come back” — all will be over by the time, or before, you come back.
