[O.Fr. atorné, lit. one appointed, Fr. a (= Lat. ad) + O.Fr. torner, to turn, Lat. tornare. An O.Fr. form actournée, fem. = function of the attorney, is found, the c perhaps by confusion with the act- of other legal terms, derived from agere, actum.]
