ABOOT-KAST, n. Also aphetic form, boot-kast (Sh. and Ork.). [ə′butkɑst, ′butkɑst] Change; esp. (1) A sudden veering round of the wind.Ork. 1929 Marw.:
I think it will be a boot-kast soon.

(2) The time of the equinox.Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928):
He will be hame at aboot-kast again.
Sh.4 1931:
He wis at da aboot cast time i year.

[O.N. umkast, turning round, change; the prefix (as in Aboot-gaain, ppl. adj.) has been translated aboot, while kast remained.]
