Rampand, -ant, adj. or pres. p. Also: -en; rawmpande; rempand; Ramping. [ME and e.m.E. rampaunt (Wyclif), -ant, rampande (1509), F. rampant, pres. p. of ramper Ramp v., with altered ending; or Ramp v.] Rampant.

1. Of the heraldic lion: That is ramping, in sense 1 of Ramp v.Esp., as the heraldic symbol of Scotland.(a) c1420 Wynt. iv 226.
