Promit, v.1 Also: -itt(e, -ict, -yt, -ytt(e, -yct; -eit; -ect; Permit(t; pres. p. also promitten; p.t. also promitat, promeittit, promyct; p.p. also promitt. [Late ME and e.m.E. promit, -yt (1425), L. prōmittere to promise, also late ME and e.m.E. promette (c 1422), F. promettre (10th c. in Godef.).] To promise.
