Sureplus, Surplice, Supplus, n. [ME and e.m.E. surplus (Chaucer), OF sorplus, surplus (c1130 and c1155 in Larousse), f. as Superplus n.] Remainder, rest. In the Ratis R. quot. there may be a play on Surples n., perhaps suggesting a garment of repentance. — c1420 Ratis R. 963.
