Stallar, n. Also: -er, stalare. [Med. L. stallarius, f. stallum (Stal(l n.).] The vicar of a canon, prebendary, etc. attached to his stall (Stal(l n. 1) in a cathedral for the purpose of carrying out his ministerial, etc. obligations in the cathedral; a person holding this office or benefice, and the emoluments attaching to it, latterly, appar. without the requirement to fulfil any duties.
