Sparand, Sparing, ppl. adj. Also: spair-, sparum. [ME and e.m.E. sparynge (Chaucer), sparand (c1400); Spar(e v.]1. Exercising economy, thrifty; mean, niggardly.(a) ?1438 Alex. ii 6993.
