Mortar-gun, n. [Mortar n.1: cf. F. mortier (15th c.), MDu. mortier (1488), and e.m.E. morter-piece (1558).] A ‘pot-gun’ (e.m.E., 1558), a mortar, the type of short-barrelled, large-calibre piece for firing shot with a high trajectory. — 1541 Treas. Acc. VIII. 120.
