Langsadil(l, -saidill, -seddill, n.1 Also: lange-, (lan-), and -sadyll, -ddell, -ddill, -dle; -saidile, -dell, -dle; -sedile, -dell, -dle; and Lang-sadyr. [North. ME. langsedil (1352–3), -sedylle. More often written as one word. Cf. also Lang-sald and Lang-sattill.] A long wooden bench having a back and commonly also arms or sides, normally with a locker or chest beneath the hinged seat; a ‘settle’.Common (with lang-sattil, -sald etc.) in the 16th and the 17th c.One special variety of ‘langsaddle’ was that which could be converted into a bed (also Langsadill-bed), another could serve as a folding table, and others were combined with a cupboard or press.(a) 1454 Old Dundee I. 558.
