Gaudé, Gawdé, n. Also: galdé, gadé, gadie. Also pl. gawdiis. [ME. gaudy (1434), gawdy (1483), e.m.E. gaidy (1500), med. L. gaudia.] One of the larger and more ornamental beads (of precious stone or metal) inserted between the decades of ‘aves’ in the rosary.(a) 1516 Acts Lords of Council MS. XXVIII. 34.
