Autour, Autor, n. Also: awtour; autore, awtor, altar. [ME. autour, autor (c 1300), AF. autour, OF. autor; cf. Auctour and Authour.]
1. = Authour I.c1420 Wynt. i. 1489 (awtorys sere, in thare storys; v. rr. autouris, awtouris); v. 4305 (Huchowne bath and the autore gyltles ar). 1456 Hay I. 66/9 (here spekis the autour of a questioun … ); 210/30 (as sais oure autour). c1475 Wall. v. 906 (as my autor will tell). 1513 Doug. vii. Prol. 214 (quharof the altar says thus).
2. = Authour 2.a1400 Leg. S. xxxiii. 444 (Appolline that autore is of dewilis al). 1563 Davidson Answer 202 (na thing bot that of the quhilk God is the autor). 1596 Dalr. II. 124/10 (he is autor of renueng the band).
