[ME and e.m.E. wirginite (Cursor M.), virginite (Manning), virgynyte (1377), vergynyte (14th c.), vyrgynyte (c1400), virginity (1547-64), OF virginite, L. virginitāt-.] a. The state of virginity or chastity, esp. viewed as a virtue, also in reference to the Virgin Mary. b. The state of being a virgin, the purity or chastity of a person. Also pl.a. a1400 Leg.
