Suspect, Suspek, adj. (n.2). Also: suspecte, -pecht, suspec(k, subspect. [ME and e.m.E. suspect (Cursor M.), OF suspet, -pect (1311 and c1360 in Larousse), L. suspectus, p.p. of suspicere.]

A. adj. 1. That arouses, or is the object of, suspicion; (that is) suspected of possessing some, chiefly negative, attribute or characteristic, as, being harmful, dangerous, untrustworthy, dishonest, disreputable, disloyal, in breach of the law, etc. Variously const. a.
