Sellat, Sallet, n. Also: sellet, -ait(t, salat, -id. [Late ME and e.m.E. sallet (c1440), salet (1465), salade (Caxton), sallate (a1600), sallate (1652), MF salade, MDu. sal(l)ade.] A sallet, the type of helmet with the lower back part curving outwards.Common only c1450-c1550.(a) 1456 Acts II 45/2.
