Saul(l)-mes, Saules-mes, Soul(e)-mass(e, n. Also: saule-, sawll-, sawle-, sawill-, sal- and -mese, -mess(e, -mas, -mis. [Late ME and e.m.E. sowlemasse (c1450), sowlemas (1461), sawmos (1533), soul-masse (1661); Saul(l n. and Mes n.1] A mass for the soul of a dead person.
