Patelet, Patlat, Paitlat, -let, -lot, n. Also: payt-, paith-, pet- and -late, -latt, -lait, -lote, -lott; patllat; patillot. [e.m.E. patlett (north., 1522), -let (Skelton), otherwise only Sc. in this form, MF. patelette ‘a band of stuff’ (Godef.) (1491), etc., dim. of patte paw, flap (cf. Pat n.). Cf. Partclaith n., Pateclathe n., Partlet n. and Parlet n.] A garment worn over the neck and upper part of the chest, chiefly by women; a partlet. Also comb. with -maker.Also c 1500–40 worn by men as ‘a sort of half under-doublet or petticoat’ (C. R. Beard).(a) 1506 Treas. Acc. III. 47.
