Oppressioun(e, n. Also: oppres(s)ion(e, -yon, (oppressoun); opressioun. [ME. (Rolle) and e.m.E. oppressio(u)n, opressio(u)n, L. oppressio, OF. oppression (12th c.).]

Oppression.The act of tyrannising over or violently molesting another; the fact of being oppressed in this way.Sometimes applied, more or less hyperbolically, to wrongful trading practices and to extortion.Also fig. and personif.(1) 1456 Hay I. 70/23.
