Liart, Lyart, n. Also: lyard. [e.m.E. lierde, lier (1542), lyard, liard, F. liard, liart, ? subst. use of liard adj. grey (see Liart,a. (n.)).] The small French coin, of the value of the fourth part of a sou. b. As the type of a coin of small value. 1539 Treas. Acc. VII. 56.
