Knappet(t, Knappart, -ert, Knaphard, n. Also: knappeit, knap(p)it(t, knappat, knaipit; knappairt. [Variants of Knapholt, Knappald (like those of hamehald (hamet, hamer) or of scherald: and cf. also knarratt, knerrott, Knarholt).All but one or two of the occurrences noted (see quots. 1547, 1587) come from the Dundee, Forfarshire, Kincardineshire area.]
