Blate, Blait, a. Also: blat, blett, bleat. [Of obscure origin; agreeing in form, but not in meaning, with OE. blát pale, livid.]

1. Devoid of spirit; backward, timid; bashful, shy.(a) 1456 Hay II. 63.
