1. Arrest, apprehension.1397 Acts I. 208/1 (the arrestyng of the fugitiues). 1424 Ib. II. 4/1 (gif sik trespassouris takis ony skaythe in the aresting of thame). 1515 Reg. Privy S. I. 407/1 (without ony atteching, aresting, … ). 1542 Montgomery Mem. 127 (all attaching, arreisting, or intrometting). 1622-6 Bisset I. 253/11 (of arreisting of landward men be burgesis within burgh).
