WREST, n.2 The (lower edge of the) mould-board of a plough (Sc. 1814 J. Sinclair Agric. Scot. I. 216: Slg., Lth., wm.Sc., Wgt. 1974). Also in Eng. dial.Lth. 1765 A. Dickson Agriculture 194:
If the wrest is high set, the earth of the furrow will not touch the hinder part of the mold-board, but is raised and turned by the wrest.
Sc. 1808 Farmer's Mag. (Dec.) 522:
Owing to the way in which the sock or share of that plough operates, a great deal of the ground is left to be turned over by the wrest.
Sc. 1855–7 Trans. Highl. Soc. 90:
It is needless to think of ploughing rough land effectually without a plough made specially for the purpose, large and strong in every part, having abundance of coulter “redd”, and great width and power in the wrest.
