UPSUN, n. Sunrise, daybreak; occas. any time of day while it is still light (Gall. 1825 Jam.). Freq. in phr. with (the) upsun, at dawn, at sunrise.Sc. 1703 Fountainhall Decisions (1761) II. 189:
If an ejection may be executed in the night-time, at least, before sun-rising, or if it must be done with up-sun.
Sc. 1708 Morison Decisions 2921:
To prove a fact done with the up-sun.
Rxb. 1737 Melrose Parish Reg. (S.R.S.) 230:
Agnes Gray went off yesterday with up sun upon an horse of the bailie's.
