SUFFICIENT, adj. Also †suf-. Sc. usage, gen. of things: substantial, solid, adequate in regard to strength or condition (Sh., Rnf., Kcb. 1971, esp. in specifications). Obsol. Adv. sufficiently.Kcd. 1705 in Burns Works (Chambers 1896) I. 452:
Ffor door locked and bandet and back door bared and steepled all to be sufficient.
Sc. 1727 Grant Ct. Bk. MS. (17 Nov.):
Ane suficient year old wedder or two shilling starline. . . . Ane suficient Lamb or tuelve shilling scots money.
