LEFTY, n. Also leftie; lefsi (Jak.); and deriv. leftin, left-ane. [′lɛftɪ(n), ′lɛfsɪ]

1. A big, round, flat cake (Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928), lefsi, leftin); “the largest bannock of a batch” (Sh. 1866 Edm. Gl.).

2. By extension: a plat of cow-dung (Sh. a.1838 Jam. MSS. XII. 134, 1908 Jak. (1928)).

[Ad. Norw. dial. lefsa, a flat cake or loaf, deriv. of O.N. hleifr, a loaf, esp. a round flat one.]
