HAMEBIDE(R), n. A local resident. Esp. applied to natives of Bo'ness in West Lothian or Anstruther in Fife.Fif. 1948 Scots Mag. (April) 51:
The local fraternity's resentment of this regular “invasion” resulted in many a Donnybrook between “hamebiders” and “interlopers.”
Fif. 1952 P. Smith Fisher Folk 4:
A genial crack and an entertaining yarn for all “hame-bides” and visitors alike.
w.Lth. 1952 Sc. Daily Mail (13 Feb.):
Dr Anderson, however, has not lived up to the nickname of Bo'ness people. They are called “Hamebiders.” The far-travelled Moderator is an exception.
